Slim enough for a front pocket
A wallet lives a harder life than anything else you own in leather. It is opened and closed several times a day, carried against the body, and sat on. Most of them fail the same way: the fold cracks, or the stitching at the spine lets go.
This black leather bifold wallet is cut from full-grain hide, the outer layer with the grain surface left intact. That layer has the densest fibre structure, which is what lets it bend thousands of times at the spine and soften rather than split.
What is inside
| Leather | Full-grain |
|---|---|
| Format | Bifold, billfold |
| Inner left | Clear ID window with card slots |
| Inner right | Card slots |
| Note section | Full-width, runs the length of the fold |
| Colour | Black |
The ID window is the reason to choose this one
A clear window means your licence or pass is readable without being taken out, which matters at a door, a desk or a border. It is also the part that cracks first on a cheap wallet, because the film is usually glued rather than stitched in. Here it sits inside the panel with the leather stitched around it.
Slim is a design decision, not a shortage of pockets
A front pocket leather wallet men actually carry has to stay flat. Every extra gusset adds bulk that doubles once the wallet is full. This one has card slots on both inner panels and a single full-width note section, and nothing else, which is what keeps it sitting flat in a front pocket instead of wedging.
How it will age
Black full-grain is dyed through the hide rather than coated on the surface, so when a corner scuffs it does not show a pale line underneath. Expect the spine to soften within a month and the outer face to take on a slight sheen where your hand holds it. That is the leather recording use, not wearing out.
Looking after it
Very little. A wallet gets enough oil from your hands to stay supple. Condition it once a year at most, and avoid overfilling the note section, because stretching the spine from the inside is the one thing that shortens a bifold’s life.
Questions
How many cards does it hold?
There are card slots on both inner panels, with the ID window occupying part of the left. It is built for everyday cards rather than a full deck. If you carry more than a handful, a wallet with a gusset will suit you better.
Will it fit in a front pocket?
That is what it is cut for. A bifold stays flat where a trifold doubles in thickness, so this sits along the line of the pocket rather than bulging out of it.
Is full-grain better than top-grain for a wallet?
For a wallet, more than for anything else. Top-grain has the outer surface sanded away and refinished, which removes the densest fibres — exactly the ones that take the repeated bending at the spine. That is why coated wallets crack along the fold within a couple of years.
Does the leather smell?
Yes, at first, and that is normal in full-grain. It fades over a few weeks. A wallet with no smell at all usually has a surface coating sealing it.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 30 days, unused and in original condition.
How long does delivery take and are duties included?
Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order. Import duties are settled before dispatch wherever the carrier supports Delivered Duty Paid to your country, so the checkout total is the amount you pay. Where a carrier does not support it to your destination, any duty is charged locally — email info@cordwainleather.com and we will confirm which applies to you.

For me, the strongest part of this wallet design is the black color. It is simple but distinctive. The overall look is easy to picture with everyday outfits.

This wallet has a clean look, and the black color is a nice touch. It is the detail I would point out first. The listing explains the style clearly.

The black color gives this wallet its character. The product design feels considered rather than overly busy.
