Description

Brown, and cut with nothing on it

Band collar that closes with a single snap, a straight zip up the centre, zip cuffs, and nothing else. No lapels to fold open, no belt, no studs. This is the café racer shape, and in brown it reads softer than the same jacket in black without becoming a different garment.

A womens brown leather jacket in this cut is the one that goes under a coat, because there are no lapels to bunch at the shoulder. That is the practical reason to choose it over a biker jacket.

Size chart

Measure your chest around the fullest part, keeping the tape level and snug but not tight. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement, which runs larger than your body measurement because the jacket has to close over you. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one.

Size Your chest Jacket chest Sleeve Shoulder
XS 32 in (81 cm) 36 in (92 cm) 22 in (56 cm) 16 in (41 cm)

Why brown is the harder colour and the better one

Black leather is forgiving. It goes with everything, hides every scuff, and asks nothing of you. A brown cafe racer jacket women choose instead has to be matched — it wants warm tones, denim, cream, olive — and it rewards that with a patina black can never show, because you can actually see the colour deepen.

Fitted, and what that commits you to

This is cut close through the body with no belt to adjust. A fitted brown leather moto jacket looks right over a tee or a thin knit and wrong over a chunky sweater. Size it for what you will genuinely wear underneath rather than for the coldest day of the year.

This is a style jacket. No armour, no abrasion rating, not made for riding.

Questions

Should a leather jacket be tight or loose?

Close, not tight. Zipped over a t-shirt you should be able to slide a flat hand between the jacket and your chest, and no more. Leather has no stretch in the way knitwear does, so a jacket that feels generous in the shop will look shapeless within months as it relaxes.

Will a leather jacket stretch if it is tight?

Across the width, yes — roughly half a size over a season, and it never comes back. Length and shoulder do not stretch at all. So you can buy snug across the chest, but never buy tight in the shoulder hoping it will give, because it will not.

Where should leather jacket sleeves end?

At the wristbone, with your arms hanging naturally. Shorter rides up when you reach forward; longer bunches at the cuff and makes the whole jacket look borrowed. Sleeve length is one of the few things a tailor can shorten, so prioritise the shoulder when choosing.

Is a brown leather jacket harder to wear than black?

Slightly, and it is worth knowing before you buy. Brown needs the rest of the outfit to sit in the same temperature — warm neutrals, denim, cream. Black does not care what you put with it. In exchange brown ages visibly and black mostly does not.

Do leather jackets go out of style?

The plain ones do not. What dates a leather jacket is detail — asymmetric hardware placements, extreme cropping, contrast panelling, oversized studs. A band collar and a straight zip has been worn continuously since the 1960s and carries no decade with it.

How long does delivery take and are duties included?

Delivery is typically 4 to 9 working days, tracked from dispatch. Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order, and import duties are settled before dispatch wherever the carrier supports Delivered Duty Paid to your country. Where a carrier does not support it, any duty is charged locally — email info@cordwainleather.com and we will confirm.

Can I return it if it does not fit?

Yes, within 30 days on unworn items with tags attached. Most people avoid that by sending us their measurements first.
