Description
A slim black jacket shaped almost entirely by its seaming: long vertical panels run from shoulder to hem down the front and back, pulling the jacket in at the waist and releasing it again over the hip. Pointed shirt collar, straight centre zip, slash pockets, plain cuffs.
Shape from seams, not from a belt
There is no waist seam, no belt and no drawcord on this jacket. The fit comes from the way the panels are cut — each one slightly curved, so the finished jacket follows the body instead of hanging straight. It is a more expensive way to build a jacket and a considerably better-looking one, because nothing cuts across you horizontally.
The leather
Full-grain hide in a soft black. A panelled jacket needs a supple leather: the curves only work if the hide can be eased into them, and a stiff leather puckers along every seam.
How it is cut
Close through the waist, finishing just below the hip bone. Sized over a t-shirt or a fine knit. The chest gives about half a size with wear; the shoulders do not, so judge by the seam at the shoulder.
What to wear it with
Anything, which is what a plain black jacket is for. It works over a dress because the hem sits below the hip rather than cropping at the waist, and it works over tailoring because there is no hardware to fight it.
Looking after it
Condition twice a year. Keep an eye on the seams rather than the panels — on a heavily seamed jacket the stitching is what takes the strain, and a loose thread is a five-minute repair early and a bigger one later. Wide hanger, out of direct sun.
Shipping, duties and returns
Free worldwide shipping, 4–9 working days. Import duties are settled before dispatch where the carrier supports Delivered Duty Paid to the destination country; where it does not, duty is charged locally and we will tell you which applies before you order. Size chart
Measure your bust around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about cut and construction
What are the vertical seams down the front of a jacket for?
Shaping. Known as princess seams, they run from the shoulder or armhole down to the hem and let the maker curve the panel inward at the waist and outward over the bust and hip. A jacket with them follows the body; a jacket without them has to use darts or a belt, both of which show.
Why do leather jackets have more seams than cloth ones?
Because a hide is a limited, irregular shape. Cloth comes on a roll and large pieces can be cut from it; leather has to be cut around the animal’s natural edges and flaws, so panels are smaller and more numerous by necessity. A well-made leather jacket turns that limitation into shaping.
Does a fitted leather jacket work on a curvier figure?
Better than a boxy one, usually. A panelled jacket can be curved where you are curved, where a straight-cut jacket has to be sized to the widest point and hangs everywhere else. What to check is that the vertical seams sit either side of the bust rather than across it.
How do you tell a jacket is actually cut for women?
Narrower shoulders relative to the chest, a higher armhole, a shaped waist and a shorter sleeve for the same chest measurement. A men’s jacket in a small size has none of those — it is simply smaller all over, which is why it hangs straight and the sleeves swamp the hands.
Where should a women’s leather jacket hem sit?
Either at the waist or just below the hip bone, and not in between. The hem that lands exactly on the widest part of the hip is the unflattering one. This jacket finishes below it, which is also what lets it work over a dress rather than only over trousers.
Is a plain black jacket worth owning if you already have a biker?
Yes, and it is the one you will wear more. A biker jacket is a statement and goes with a specific kind of outfit; a plain panelled jacket goes over a dress, a shirt, a jumper or tailoring and disappears into all of them. Most people end up reaching for the plain one four times out of five.

This jacket has a clean look, and the black color is a nice touch. It is the detail I would point out first. It has a more understated appearance than some similar designs.

For me, the strongest part of this jacket design is the black color. It is simple but distinctive. The overall look is easy to picture with everyday outfits.
