Description
A longer, heavier hooded jacket cut on field-coat lines rather than bomber ones: a pointed collar with the hood sitting under it, a button placket covering the centre zip, two flap pockets at the chest and two more at the hip, plus a zip welt pocket. The body finishes well below the waistband.
Longer than the rest
Most hooded leather jackets stop at the hip. This one carries on, which changes what it does: it covers the seat of your trousers, it layers over a knit or a waistcoat properly, and it reads as a coat rather than as casualwear. The hood keeps it from ever being formal, but the length moves it a long way in that direction.
The button front
Snaps down a covered placket, with a zip underneath. Two closures sounds redundant and is not: the zip does the sealing, the placket keeps wind off the zip line and gives the front a clean face with no metal running down it.
The leather
Full-grain hide, black, in a heavier weight than our bombers ā which the length demands, because a long jacket in a light hide hangs limp rather than holding its line.
How it is cut
Generous, with room for a jumper underneath by design. Most people take their usual size and size up only if a thick sweatshirt is going under it. Check the shoulder, and check you can reach forward freely.
What to wear it with
Straight jeans or heavy trousers and boots. Because it is long, it wants reasonably substantial trousers underneath ā a long coat over very slim trousers looks top-heavy.
Looking after it
Condition twice a year. A long, heavy jacket needs a strong wide hanger; a thin one will dent the shoulders within a season under this much weight. Hang the hood flat down the back.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about longer leather jackets
What is a field jacket?
A longer, four-pocket military pattern ā chest and hip pockets with flaps, a button or snap front, and a body that covers the hips. The M-65 is the best-known version. In leather it keeps the pockets and the length and loses the webbing and drawcords.
Do you size a long leather jacket differently?
The chest and shoulder rules are the same, but length matters more. A long jacket that is slightly too big looks like a borrowed coat, where a short one just looks relaxed. Check that the hem lands where you want it on the thigh before worrying about anything else.
Is a button front warmer than a zip?
On its own, no ā buttons leave gaps a zip does not. Combined, as here, they are warmer than either alone, because the placket blocks wind that would otherwise come straight through the zip teeth. That is why serious cold-weather coats almost always have both.
Do longer leather coats work on shorter builds?
They can, but the hem has to stop above the knee and the shoulders must fit exactly. A long coat that reaches mid-thigh on a tall man reaches the knee on a shorter one and shortens the leg line badly. If in doubt, a hip-length jacket is the safer proportion.
Can you wear this over a blazer?
Yes ā length is exactly what makes that possible. A bomber cannot go over tailoring because it ends above the blazer’s hem; a coat this length covers it properly. The hood keeps the overall effect casual, so it works better over a soft unstructured jacket than over a suit.
How much heavier is a long leather coat?
Roughly half as much again as a hip-length jacket in the same hide, because there is simply more of it. Most of that weight hangs from the shoulders, which is worth knowing if you will be wearing it all day rather than between car and door.

For me, the strongest part of this jacket design is the hood. It is simple but distinctive. I appreciate the focus on the smaller design details.

I like how the hood works with the rest of this jacket. The proportions in the design are appealing. It has a more understated appearance than some similar designs.

The hood gives this jacket its character. The product design feels considered rather than overly busy. The product title and details made the design easy to understand.
