Description
A soft black jacket with a pointed shirt collar and a tab that snaps across the throat, a straight centre zip, and a deliberately mismatched pair of chest pockets — a snap flap patch pocket on one side, a flat zip pocket on the other. Zip hand pockets below, snap tabs at the hem.
The two chest pockets
They are different on purpose. The flap pocket is a patch sewn onto the surface, quick to open and with volume behind it; the zip opposite is set flat into the panel and holds things securely. Together they break the symmetry of the front, which is what stops a plain black jacket looking like a uniform.
The leather
Full-grain hide in a soft, light weight — supple enough to fall in vertical folds rather than standing away from the body. A softer hide feels right immediately and shows a scuff more readily than a thick one, which is the trade you make for the comfort.
How it is cut
Close but not restrictive, hem at the belt. Sized over a t-shirt or a knit — the photographs show it over a mid-weight jumper, which is what it is drafted for. Shoulder seam at the shoulder.
What to wear it with
A coloured knit underneath is the version worth trying — rust, olive and mustard all lift a black jacket, which is otherwise a wall of one colour. Dark trousers, boots. It does not want anything patterned.
Looking after it
Condition twice a year. On a soft hide go lightly; over-conditioning makes a supple leather slack rather than supple. Hang on a wide hanger and close the throat tab so the collar keeps its shape.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about jacket details and wear
Why does a jacket have two different chest pockets?
Usually for the reason it does here — to break up the front. A perfectly symmetrical jacket in one colour reads flat, and an asymmetric pair of pockets gives the eye something to land on. It is also practical: a flap pocket and a zip pocket are good at different things.
What is the tab at the throat of a jacket for?
It is a storm tab. Zipped to the top, a collar still leaves a gap at the throat; the tab snaps across and closes it. On most jackets it is left undone and reads as a detail, but in a cold wind it is the difference between a jacket that seals and one that does not.
Is soft leather less hard-wearing than thick leather?
Less abrasion-resistant, yes — a thin, soft hide scuffs and punctures more easily than a heavy one. Less durable in ordinary use, no: a soft full-grain jacket worn to work and to the pub will outlast its owner’s interest in it. The difference matters at the extremes, not in a normal week.
What colour jumper goes under a black leather jacket?
Almost anything, and this is the easiest way to get more out of a black jacket. Rust, mustard, olive and deep green all lift it. Grey and white are the safe defaults. The only combination to think twice about is black on black on black, which flattens into a single silhouette.
Does a leather jacket have to be worn zipped?
No, and most are not. Zipped, this jacket is narrower and more formal; open, it frames what is underneath and reads relaxed. A jacket that only looks right zipped is usually one size too small, and a jacket that only looks right open is one size too big.
How long before a leather jacket looks its best?
Two or three winters of regular wear. The first season softens it and settles the fit; after that the creases set into the places you actually bend and the surface starts to gain depth at the shoulders and elbows. A leather jacket is one of very few garments that is better used than new.

This jacket has a clean look, and the black color is a nice touch. It is the detail I would point out first. I appreciate the focus on the smaller design details.

I was looking at the design details, and the black color caught my eye. It works well on this jacket. The overall look is easy to picture with everyday outfits.

The black color gives this jacket its character. The product design feels considered rather than overly busy. It has a more understated appearance than some similar designs.
Lucy Parker –
I like how the black color works with the rest of this jacket. The proportions in the design are appealing. The listing explains the style clearly.
Jack Morrison –
There is a nice balance to the styling of this jacket. The black color is a good finishing detail.
