Description

A fitted jacket in pearl white leather, with ribbed quilted panels across the shoulders, down the outside of each sleeve, up the sides of the body and in an oval panel across the back. Band collar with a snap tab, straight centre zip, two zip hip pockets, zip cuffs.

The finish

Not a flat white — there is a faint pearl sheen in the surface, so the ribbed panels catch light while the flat ones hold it. On a pale leather that contrast is the whole design; the same panelling in black would barely register.

The leather

Full-grain hide, finished in white. A pale colour is the hardest thing to do well in leather because every variation in the hide shows through, so the grain has to be even to start with. It is also the finish that most rewards looking after.

How it is cut

Close and short, finishing at the hip bone. Sized over a t-shirt or a fine knit — the ribbed panels have no stretch. Shoulder seam at the shoulder.

What to wear it with

Black is the obvious and best answer: black jeans, black boots, a black top. Cream and camel work for a softer version. Avoid anything that will transfer colour — raw indigo denim in particular, which marks a white jacket at the hip within a few wears.

Looking after it

Wipe it with a dry soft cloth often rather than cleaning it occasionally. Use a colourless conditioner only, twice a year. Store it away from anything dark that could rub against it, and never in a bag with a dyed lining.

Size chart

Measure your bust around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about white leather

Is a white leather jacket impractical?

More demanding than black, certainly — but less fragile than people assume. Leather does not absorb dirt the way fabric does, so most marks sit on the surface and wipe off if you deal with them the same day. What it will not survive is neglect: a white jacket left to accumulate grime at the cuffs for a year cannot be brought back.

How do you clean a white leather jacket?

A barely damp cloth with a drop of mild soap, worked gently over the mark and then wiped with a clean damp cloth to lift the soap. Let it dry at room temperature. Do not use household cleaners, bleach or baby wipes — all three strip the finish and leave a dull patch that is more obvious than the original mark.

Does white leather go yellow over time?

It can, particularly if it is stored in sunlight or treated with an oily conditioner. Both cause the finish to warm up. Keeping it in a wardrobe rather than in light, and using a colourless water-based conditioner instead of a cream, is what prevents it.

What colour goes with a white leather jacket?

Black, first and foremost — the contrast does the work and nothing else is needed. Cream, grey and camel make a softer, more tonal version. The combination to avoid is bright colour, which against a pale jacket reads as fancy dress rather than as an outfit.

Can you wear a white leather jacket in winter?

Yes, and it is one of the few things that lifts a dark winter wardrobe. The practical problem is not cold but wet roads and dark denim, which both mark a pale jacket. A white jacket is a dry-day garment in winter and an any-day one in spring.

Is white leather harder to repair?

Yes — colour-matching white is surprisingly difficult, because whites vary between blue-white, cream and pearl, and a repair patch that is slightly off is more visible than on a dark hide. Seam repairs are straightforward; surface damage on white is the one case where prevention genuinely matters more than repair.
