A leather portfolio folder in drum-milled mocha brown full-grain. The raised irregular grain comes from the hide, not a press, and hides the scuffs a smooth finish would show. 10 × 13 in closed, snap tab, A4 sleeve, four card slots. Free worldwide shipping with duties paid.

Description
A folder that still looks new after two years of being carried
This leather portfolio folder is finished by tumbling the hide in a drum until its own grain contracts into fine irregular ridges. The practical result is that a new scuff lands in a valley and has no uniform plane to contrast against, so it reads as more texture rather than as damage. The leather also comes out noticeably softer than a smooth cover of the same weight.
What is inside
- Snap-flap document pocket, full width
- Angled slip pocket for immediate access
- Zip pocket, brass-tone pull
- Four business card slots
- Two pen holders on the centre fold
- A4 sleeve for a pad, notebook or clipboard
Against other leather binder padfolios
Most leather binder padfolios use a ring mechanism and a stiff spine, which is why they will not lie flat and why the rings eventually leave impressions through the cover. This has no rings — the pad sits in a sleeve, so the folder closes flush, the cover stays unmarked, and it opens flat on a table without being held down.
Is this a debossed leather portfolio?
No, and the distinction is worth knowing. A debossed leather portfolio has an impression pressed into the surface without foil, usually a monogram or logo. Embossed means a pattern stamped in from a heated plate, which on cheap stock is a fake grain hiding a sanded split. This is milled: the texture is the hide’s own, produced mechanically, so no two panels carry the same pattern.

Looking after it
Use a soft brush rather than a cloth. Dust settles into the valleys of a milled surface where a cloth only skims the ridges, and over months that is what dulls the finish rather than wear. For marks, a barely damp cloth and then dry flat at room temperature, away from any heat source.
Questions
Is the texture printed on?
No. It is produced by tumbling the hide, so the pattern comes from the leather’s own structure. A pressed or printed grain repeats under raking light; this does not, and runs deeper where the hide was naturally looser.
Is it tougher than a smooth finish?
The hide is no stronger — milling changes how damage reads, not how much the leather can take. What you are buying is a surface that keeps its original appearance, and the cost of that is a folder which never visibly ages.
Can I have initials on it?
Not well. The surface is already irregular, so an impression competes with the grain instead of sitting cleanly in it. For a monogram, order the smooth brown or black version.
Does it need breaking in?
Barely. Milling breaks the fibre structure down before the hide is cut, so it arrives feeling close to how it will always feel. A firm smooth cover takes weeks to get there.
Why does it look darker in photos?
Textured brown photographs darker than it reads in daylight, and it is the shade most often misjudged from a screen. Returns are open for 30 days if the tone is not what you expected.
Does a pad come with it?
No. The A4 sleeve takes any standard A4 or US letter pad, and also fits a clipboard.
