About Men's Leather Jackets

Most men buy one leather jacket and keep it for fifteen years, which makes the first choice the only one that matters. The question is not which jacket looks best in a photograph — it is which shape suits the way you already dress, and whether the hide will soften or start peeling in year three. Everything below is full-grain, priced between $279 and $379, and shipped with duties already paid.

Which style should you buy first?

If you own nothing in leather, buy a bomber or a café racer. Both are quiet enough to wear with a shirt or a hoodie, and neither reads as costume. A biker jacket is the one people want and the one they wear least — the wide lapels and heavy zip need an outfit built around them. Buy the biker second, once you know you actually reach for leather.

How do you know it will fit before it arrives?

One measurement decides everything: shoulder width. The seam has to land where your shoulder ends, because that is the single thing a tailor cannot move afterwards. Sleeve length and waist can both be taken in. Measure across your back from shoulder point to shoulder point, send it to us with your height and chest, and we will tell you which size to take — including when the answer is that nothing here will fit you well.

Why does full-grain cost more than the jackets you see advertised?

Because of what is left in. Full-grain is the outermost layer of the hide with the grain intact, including the marks the animal collected. Cheaper jackets sand that surface away, spray on a plastic finish and sell it as corrected grain or bonded leather. It looks flawless on day one and cracks along the elbows by year two. Full-grain starts less perfect and ends better.

What does the price actually cover?

The hide, the hardware and the labor, plus shipping and duty. At $279 to $379 you are not paying for a storefront on a shopping street or a name licensed from a fashion house. You are also not getting split hide with a coating. That band is where honest full-grain sits once the middlemen come out.

Questions, answered

What size leather jacket should I order?

Send us your height, chest measurement and the size you normally wear in a coat. We reply with one recommendation, not a chart.

Do I pay customs when it arrives?

No. Duties and import taxes are paid by us before it ships, so the figure at checkout is the final figure. Nothing is owed to the courier at your door.

Is this real leather or bonded?

Full-grain cowhide, which is the top grade. Bonded leather is offcuts glued to a backing and sold under the same word — we do not use it anywhere, including linings and trims.

Will the jacket stretch?

Across the chest and through the sleeves, slightly, over the first month. It will not shrink back. Never buy one tight expecting it to give.

Can I wear it in winter?

On its own down to roughly 50°F (10°C). Below that you want the puffer, which is insulated rather than simply lined.

If you already know the shape you want, go straight to biker, bomber, puffer or hooded. If you know the color before the cut, brown is the easier one to build outfits around.
