Most detachable straps clip on at a fixed length, which is fine if you happen to be the height the designer had in mind. This one adjusts on a buckle with punched holes, the same way a belt does, so it sits where you want it rather than where it was made to sit.

The pen slots are the detail that gets used

Is a suede lining better than fabric?
Different rather than better. Suede grips contents so they do not slide, and it wears like leather instead of fraying at the seams. Fabric wipes clean more easily and weighs less. Suede is the more durable choice and the harder one to clean if you spill something.
How do you clean the inside of a leather bag?
Turn it upside down and shake it out first — most of what accumulates is loose. For a suede lining, a suede brush lifts the nap. Avoid liquid inside a bag entirely, because the lining dries far more slowly than the outside and that is how a bag ends up smelling.
Will the strap holes stretch?
Not on a strap this thickness. Elongated holes are a symptom of thin leather carrying more than it was cut for. If you consistently carry heavy loads, use the top handles and keep the strap for lighter days.
Does tan leather stain in the rain?
It will spot if it gets properly wet, and tan shows it more than dark colours. Let it dry at room temperature, never near a radiator, and the spotting usually evens out as the bag ages. The first year is the vulnerable one.
