Description
A roller buckle, which is the casual one
The pin on this buckle sits in a rolling barrel rather than a fixed bar. That is the difference between a belt for jeans and a belt for a suit, and it is the detail most people recognise without being able to name.
A tan leather belt roller buckle is wider, less formal and easier to fasten than a dress belt, because the roller turns as the strap passes over it instead of dragging.

Why the roller matters
Every time you fasten a belt, the strap drags across the buckle bar. On a fixed bar that friction wears a shine into the leather at the contact point and eventually a groove. A roller turns with the strap, so the wear is spread rather than concentrated. On a casual leather belt for jeans that gets fastened and unfastened daily, it is the difference of years.
Stitched edges, not raw or painted
A line of stitching runs down both edges. On a stitched edge leather belt men wear hard, that stitching stops the edge rolling and curling, which is what happens to an unstitched belt once the leather softens. It also holds the shape of the strap through the loops.
What tan does over time
It darkens, and unevenly, which on a belt is the point. The holes you actually use will deepen first, then the section that sits at the front. In two years the belt reads as yours rather than new, and that is a thing you cannot buy pre-made.
Choosing a size
Trouser waist plus two inches, which puts you on the middle hole with room either side. Email info@cordwainleather.com if you are between sizes or wear it over different layers.
Questions
What is the difference between a dress belt and a casual belt?
Width, buckle and finish. A dress belt is narrower, with a flat polished face and a plain frame buckle, worn with a suit. A casual belt is wider with a roller buckle and a textured finish, worn with jeans and chinos. This is the casual one.
How tight should a leather belt be?
Fastened on the middle hole with enough room to slide two fingers between the belt and your waist. If you are on the last hole in either direction on day one, the size is wrong — leather stretches slightly and you want holes left in reserve.
Does a belt have to match your shoes exactly?
The tone should be close, not identical. Tan belt with brown shoes reads correctly; tan belt with black shoes does not. If you need one belt to cover both, our reversible belt is built for that.
Why does my leather belt crack?
Almost always because it is bonded or coated rather than full-grain — the coating cracks and the layers separate. The other cause is drying out. Full-grain conditioned two or three times a year does not crack; it softens and darkens.
Can I cut it shorter?
Yes, from the tail end, which is how belts are traditionally sized. A cobbler will do it properly and re-punch a hole if needed. Cutting it yourself without a proper punch usually leaves a ragged edge that then frays.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 30 days, unworn and in original condition.
How long does delivery take and are duties included?
Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order. Import duties are settled before dispatch wherever the carrier supports Delivered Duty Paid to your country, so the checkout total is the amount you pay. Where a carrier does not support it, any duty is charged locally — email info@cordwainleather.com and we will confirm which applies to you.

I like how the brown shade works with the rest of this belt. The proportions in the design are appealing. The listing explains the style clearly.

The shape of this belt is appealing, especially with the brown shade. It has the kind of look I generally prefer. I appreciate the focus on the smaller design details.
Daniel Cooper –
The brown shade gives this belt its character. The product design feels considered rather than overly busy. It has a more understated appearance than some similar designs.
Noah Phillips –
The brown shade is what drew my attention to this belt. It gives the design a distinct look without feeling overdone. The product title and details made the design easy to understand.

This belt has a clean look, and the brown shade is a nice touch. It is the detail I would point out first. The overall look is easy to picture with everyday outfits.
