Most leather jackets photographed flat go limp and fold in on themselves. This one holds its shape across the shoulders and keeps the sleeves standing. That is weight — thick grained cowhide rather than a light lambskin — and it changes how the jacket wears more than any design detail does.
A heavy cowhide leather jacket men buy for winter is a different object from a soft fashion jacket. It blocks wind on its own, it takes years rather than months to break in, and it outlasts everything lighter.

The sleeve pocket is a riding detail that stayed
A zip pocket on the upper left sleeve, originally for a pass or a ticket that needed reaching without opening a jacket in weather. A black leather jacket with sleeve zip pocket keeps it because it is genuinely useful for a phone or a card, and because it breaks up the plain sleeve.

What thickness of leather is used for jackets?
Typically between 0.8 and 1.4 mm. Lambskin sits at the light end and is soft immediately. Cowhide at the heavy end is stiff at first and far more durable. Most fashion jackets use the lighter end because it feels better in a shop; this one does not.
Is cowhide or lambskin better for a leather jacket?
Neither, but they are good at different things. Cowhide is thicker, tougher, blocks wind and takes years of wear. Lambskin is softer, lighter and drapes beautifully but scuffs easily and wears through sooner. Pick cowhide for a jacket you intend to keep.
Do leather jackets keep you warm?
They block wind extremely well, which is most of what makes cold weather uncomfortable. They insulate poorly on their own. A heavy leather jacket over a knit is warm; the same jacket over a t-shirt in freezing weather is not. Leather stops the wind, layers do the warmth.
