Description
A mid-thigh shearling coat in tan suede, with the fur turned to the inside and allowed to show at every edge — collar, front placket, cuffs and hem. The suede is finished with a worn, uneven tone rather than a flat dye, so it reads as a coat that has already been somewhere. Button front, two open hip pockets, no belt, no hardware to catch.
What the coat is made of
Suede outer with a soft fur lining through the body and sleeves. Suede is the napped underside of the hide, which is why it feels brushed rather than smooth and why the colour shifts slightly as the pile moves. It is a different surface to smooth leather and asks for different care — there is no polished top layer to protect it, so keep it away from standing rain and treat it with a suede protector before the first cold snap.
How it is cut
It finishes around mid-thigh and is cut wide enough to close over a thick jumper. The fur lining takes up real space inside, so this is not a coat you buy slim — if anything it wears closer to your body size than a lined wool overcoat of the same label size.
Wearing it
It does the work of an overcoat without the formality of one. Dark denim or grey trousers, a crew-neck knit, and boots with a bit of weight. The fur at the collar is the point of the coat, so leave the top button open and let it sit up.
Looking after it
Brush the suede with a soft suede brush in one direction to lift the nap after wear. Shake the fur out rather than combing it flat. Hang it on a broad hanger with room on both sides — crushed fur at the shoulder is the one thing that is hard to bring back.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the coat has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about long shearling coats
What is a shearling coat?
A shearling coat is one where the skin and the fleece are worn together — hide on the outside, fleece turned in against you, finished so both sides are usable. That is why the collar, cuffs and hem on this coat show fur: those are the edges where the lining is allowed to roll out rather than being hidden by a facing.
Is a shearling coat warmer than a wool overcoat?
For the same length, usually yes. Wool insulates by trapping air in the weave, but the weave lets wind through; a fur-lined coat with a suede face blocks wind at the surface and holds warm air in the pile underneath. The trade is weight and bulk — a shearling coat is noticeably heavier on the shoulders than wool, and it does not pack down.
How should a long shearling coat fit?
Close at the shoulder, easy everywhere else. The shoulder seam should land where your shoulder ends, because that is the one line that cannot be altered. Through the chest you want room for a knit without the front buttons pulling. Length is a matter of taste — mid-thigh, as here, is the balance point that works over both jeans and tailored trousers.
Can you wear suede in the rain?
Light rain is survivable, a downpour is not. Suede has no sealed top layer, so water sinks into the nap and dries in a ring. Spray it with a suede protector before winter, and if it does get wet, let it dry away from any radiator and then brush the nap back up once it is fully dry.
How do you clean a suede coat at home?
Brush, do not wash. A suede brush lifts the nap and takes dry dirt out; a suede eraser handles shiny patches on the cuffs and pocket edges, which are the first places to go flat. Anything oily, and anything that has soaked through, goes to a leather specialist rather than a standard dry cleaner.
What do you wear under a shearling coat?
One warm layer, not two. The lining is doing the insulating already, so a mid-weight knit over a shirt is enough for most winter days — stacking a fleece or a hoodie underneath mostly ends up pushing the chest buttons apart rather than making you warmer.

This coat has a clean look, and the shearling styling is a nice touch. It is the detail I would point out first. The overall look is easy to picture with everyday outfits.
