Description

Black on one side, brown on the other

Turn the buckle and the belt flips. Black for a suit and dark shoes, brown for everything else, from the same strap. That is the entire idea and it is the reason this is the belt most men should own if they are only owning one.

A reversible leather belt men buy once replaces two belts in a wardrobe, and it removes the single most common dressing error — brown belt with black shoes.

How a rotating buckle works

The buckle plate pivots on the strap. Release it, turn it through 180 degrees, feed the strap back and the other face is showing. There is no unthreading and nothing to unscrew. A rotating buckle leather belt takes about five seconds to flip once you have done it once.

Why both faces have to be real leather

This is where cheap reversible belts fail. Making one good face is easy; making two means the strap has to be finished on both sides, which usually means two layers bonded back to back. Bonded belts split along that join, and once they start they go quickly. A properly made reversible belt is one hide finished both ways.

Stitched edges on both sides

The stitching runs down both edges rather than one, because on a reversible belt every edge is a visible edge. It is also what holds the faces in register so the belt does not twist in the loops.

Choosing a size

Take your trouser waist size and add two inches. That puts you on the middle hole, which is where you want to start — belts stretch slightly with wear and you want holes left on both sides. If you are between sizes, or you wear a belt over different layers, email info@cordwainleather.com and we will confirm before you order.

Questions

How does a reversible belt work?

The buckle rotates on the end of the strap. You release the catch, turn the buckle a half turn, and the opposite face of the leather now shows. The strap itself never needs unthreading from your belt loops in the process, though it is easier to do with the belt off.

Are reversible belts good quality?

They can be either, and the construction tells you which. A good one is a single hide finished on both faces. A poor one is two thin layers glued back to back, which delaminates along the join and cannot be repaired. Check the edge: a bonded belt shows a visible seam line down the middle of its thickness.

Should a belt match your shoes?

Traditionally yes, and it is the rule most worth keeping because a mismatch is one of the few things people notice without knowing why. A reversible belt removes the problem — flip to black with black shoes, brown with brown.

What size belt should I buy?

Your trouser waist plus two inches, which lands you on the centre hole. Buying by your jeans tag size alone is where most people go wrong, because a belt sits above or below the trouser waistband depending on the trousers.

Will the buckle scratch?

A brushed finish shows scratches far less than a polished one, which is why it is used on a buckle that gets turned regularly and sits against a desk edge. Marks blend into the grain of the brushing rather than catching light.

Can I return it?

Yes, within 30 days, unworn and in original condition.

How long does delivery take and are duties included?

Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order. Import duties are settled before dispatch wherever the carrier supports Delivered Duty Paid to your country, so the checkout total is the amount you pay. Where a carrier does not support it, any duty is charged locally — email info@cordwainleather.com and we will confirm which applies to you.

For me, the strongest part of this belt design is the reversible design. It is simple but distinctive.
