The women's biker is the most requested shape here and the one people get wrong most often online, because it is cut close and leather does not negotiate. Get the shoulder and the bust right and it is the single most useful jacket you can own. Get them wrong and no amount of breaking in will rescue it.
Two places. The shoulder seam has to land on the shoulder bone, and the jacket has to close across the fullest part of your bust without the front panels pulling into horizontal creases. Everything else — sleeve length, waist — a tailor can take in for very little. Those two cannot be moved.
Cropped, if you want it to work over the most things. Ending above the hip keeps the proportion high and flatters high-waisted pants, skirts and dresses equally. A longer biker is a stronger look and a narrower one — it wants slim pants underneath and not much else.
Then size it closer. A biker worn open can sit snug through the body and look far sharper for it, because the lapels fold back and frame rather than strain. If you buy for zipping over a sweater and then never zip it, you end up with a jacket a size too big for the way you actually wear it.
They should. Wide biker lapels cut for a broad chest will stand away from a narrower one and look like borrowed armour. The panels here are cut shorter and the lapel is scaled down accordingly — worth comparing against any men's-pattern jacket sold in women's sizes.
