Description
A black leather bomber with a hood lined in soft grey jersey, drawcords through the front edge with metal tips, a straight centre zip and knitted rib at the cuffs and hem. Plain through the body ā no chest pockets, no hardware beyond the zip.
The grey hood
The contrast is deliberate. A black hood on a black jacket disappears and the garment reads as one solid shape; a grey lining showing at the opening separates the hood from the collar and gives the whole jacket a focal point. It is also warmer against the neck than bare leather and much pleasanter against the back of your head.
The leather
Full-grain hide, smooth black, cut in large clean panels ā which is only possible with good hide, because the fewer the seams the larger the usable area each panel needs.
How it is cut
Built to be layered, with room through the chest by design and the rib gathering it at the hip. Over a t-shirt alone your usual size is right; over a sweatshirt, take the next size. Shoulder seam at the shoulder.
What to wear it with
Dark jeans, a plain tee or sweatshirt, trainers or boots. Because the body of the jacket is completely plain, it takes a bit more colour underneath than a jacket with pockets and hardware would.
Looking after it
Condition the leather twice a year. Wipe the grey hood lining with a barely damp cloth occasionally and let it dry fully ā pale jersey at the neck is the part that shows wear first. Hang with the hood flat down the back.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about hooded leather jackets
Why is the hood a different colour from the jacket?
Partly design, partly material. The hood is lined in jersey rather than leather for comfort, and jersey in a contrasting grey separates the hood visually from the collar instead of letting it merge into a single black mass. A tonal black lining is available on other jackets and reads much quieter.
Does a grey hood make the jacket less versatile?
Slightly. Black and grey go with almost everything, so the practical limit is small, but the contrast does commit the jacket to being casual. If you want leather that can pass as smart outerwear, the grey showing at the neck is the detail that stops it.
Can a hood lining be replaced if it wears out?
Yes, by a leather tailor ā the lining is a separate piece sewn into the hood and can be cut out and replaced without touching the leather. Matching the exact grey is unlikely after a few years, so most people replace it in black and accept the change.
How should a hooded bomber sit on the shoulders?
The seam at the edge of your shoulder, with the hood lying flat behind it rather than pushing the collar forward. If the hood bunches between your shoulder blades the jacket is too small across the back, which is a common fault on hooded leather and worth checking in a mirror from the side.
Are hooded leather jackets harder to sell on?
A little, because the hood narrows who wants it and because a worn fabric lining is visible in photographs where worn leather is not. The hide itself holds value as well as any jacket. If resale matters to you, a plain-collared jacket is the safer buy.
How do you dress a hooded leather jacket up slightly?
Swap the sweatshirt for a fine merino knit, the trainers for leather boots and the blue jeans for black or charcoal. The hood will still read casual ā that is unavoidable and not worth fighting ā but the rest of the outfit decides whether it looks considered or thrown on.

The hood gives this jacket its character. The product design feels considered rather than overly busy. The overall look is easy to picture with everyday outfits.

The shape of this jacket is appealing, especially with the hood. It has the kind of look I generally prefer. I appreciate the focus on the smaller design details.
