Description
A black jacket with a deliberately high-shine finish — the surface reflects rather than absorbs light, so the panels read almost liquid where they curve. Pointed shirt collar, straight centre zip, a horizontal yoke across the chest with a welt pocket set into each side, two hand pockets and a straight hem.
The finish
This is a polished, waxed black rather than the flat matte most leather jackets use. It is a stronger look and a more demanding one: shine shows every crease and every fingerprint, which is why the jacket photographs with light moving across the sleeves. The upside is that it reads as finished and sharp in a way a matte jacket does not.
The chest yoke
The seam running horizontally across the chest is a yoke, and the two welt pockets sit in it rather than being cut into the panel below. It is a tailoring detail rather than a motorcycle one, and it is what gives this jacket a flatter, squarer front than a biker cut.
The leather
Full-grain hide with the grain intact beneath the finish. The polish sits on the surface; it is not a plastic coating standing in for the hide, which is the difference between a jacket that keeps its shine and one that goes dull and then flakes.
How it is cut
Straight through the body, hem at the belt, sleeves finishing at the wrist bone. Take your usual size over a t-shirt or a thin knit. The yoke seam does not stretch, so if you plan to wear a jumper underneath, go up one.
Looking after it
Wipe it with a dry soft cloth rather than a damp one — the shine is what you are maintaining, and water spots on a polished finish are more visible than on a matte one. Condition twice a year and buff afterwards. Keep it off hot surfaces.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about leather finishes
Why is some leather shiny and some matte?
It is the finishing stage, not the hide. A matte leather is left with an open, lightly sealed surface; a glossy one is waxed, glazed or polished so the surface reflects. Both can be full grain and both can be cheap — shine tells you about the finish applied, never about the quality of the skin underneath.
Is shiny leather real leather?
It can be either, which is why the shine itself proves nothing. What tells you is the edge and the back: real hide shows fibre at a cut edge and has an uneven suede-like reverse, where a coated synthetic has a fabric backing and a clean plastic edge. A very uniform, mirror-flat shine with no grain visible at all is the one to be suspicious of.
What is a welt pocket?
A pocket with no flap, where the opening is finished with a narrow strip of leather stitched around it. It sits completely flat against the garment, which is why it is used on tailoring and on jackets like this one where a flap would break up a clean front.
Can you polish a leather jacket like shoes?
No. Shoe polish contains hard waxes and pigment meant for thick, stiff shoe leather, and on a garment it builds up, cracks at the creases and transfers onto whatever you wear underneath. Use a leather conditioner made for clothing, then buff with a soft cloth if you want the shine back.
Why do the panels on my leather jacket look slightly different?
Because they came from different parts of the hide, or different hides. Grain density and dye uptake vary across an animal, so one panel can read a shade deeper than its neighbour. It is a sign the jacket is made of real leather rather than a printed sheet, and the difference usually evens out as the whole jacket ages.
What do you do if a leather jacket feels sticky?
Stickiness almost always means the surface finish is breaking down — common on coated or synthetic-faced jackets after a few years in a warm cupboard, and not something a conditioner fixes. On real leather it usually means too much conditioner has been applied and not buffed off; wipe it back with a dry cloth and let it air for a few days.
