Description
A petrol blue leather jacket cut on the café-racer pattern: band collar with a snap tab at the throat, a straight centre zip rather than an asymmetric one, and no belt or epaulettes to break the line. Two zip chest pockets sit high and flat, two more at the hip, and one on the inside. The panelling runs in long vertical seams down the back, which is what keeps the shape close through the waist.
The colour
This is a deep petrol blue — closer to slate than to navy, and a long way from a bright royal. It is a dyed-through finish rather than a printed one, so the shade reads slightly darker in the seams and at the folds, and it will not go patchy if the surface scuffs.
The leather
Full-grain hide with the natural grain left on. The grain layer is the dense outer surface of the skin, so it resists a scuff instead of flaking at it, and over a few winters it takes on a sheen across the shoulders and elbows where it flexes most.
How it is cut
Slim. It is drafted to be worn over a t-shirt or a thin knit, hitting at the belt with the sleeves ending at the wrist bone. If you want to wear a hoodie underneath, go a size up — this is not a jacket with layering room built in.
What to wear it with
Blue leather is easier than people expect, because it behaves like a denim jacket rather than a statement piece. Black or charcoal trousers and a white tee is the cleanest version. Avoid blue jeans in a similar wash — two blues a shade apart look like a mistake, where a clear contrast looks deliberate.
Looking after it
Condition it twice a year, keep it off a thin wire hanger, and keep it out of long direct sun. Dyed colours lose depth under UV faster than black does, so a cupboard rather than a hook by the window.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about blue leather jackets
Can a man wear a blue leather jacket?
Yes, and it is a more wearable colour than its reputation suggests. A muted blue like this one sits in the same slot as a denim jacket in an outfit — it goes with grey, black, white, cream and olive without any thought. The colours that cause trouble are bright royal and electric, not this end of the range.
What is the difference between a café racer and a biker jacket?
A biker jacket — the Perfecto shape — zips off-centre, has a wide lapel that folds back, and usually a belt at the waist. A café racer zips straight up the middle and finishes with a low band collar, which is what this jacket has. The café racer is the plainer of the two and the easier one to wear somewhere other than a bike.
Do leather jackets fade in the sun?
Coloured ones do, black much less so. Ultraviolet light breaks down the dye, and because the shoulders and one sleeve catch most of it, fading shows up unevenly rather than all over. Storing it in a wardrobe rather than on a hook in a sunny room is the whole of the prevention.
Should a leather jacket be tight when new?
Snug, not tight. The chest and body will give roughly half a size as the leather warms and moulds, so a jacket that is close but lets you zip it and move your arms will settle into the right fit. The shoulders are the exception — they never give, so if the seam is pulling past your shoulder point on day one, it is the wrong size.
What goes with a blue leather jacket?
Black or charcoal trousers, grey or white knitwear, and brown or black boots. The one combination to avoid is mid-blue jeans, because two near-identical blues read as an accident. Black denim keeps the contrast clean.
Are zip pockets better than flap pockets on a leather jacket?
For a close-cut jacket, yes — a zip pocket lies flat against the body, where a flap adds bulk and a visible line across the chest. It is also the reason this style was used on bikes: nothing falls out and nothing flaps at speed.
