Description
A dark brown leather bomber with a hood lined in grey, drawcords with metal tips, a brass centre zip and knitted rib at the cuffs and hem. A yoke seam runs across the chest; the body below it is plain.
Brown with a hood
A hood on brown leather reads softer than on black — brown is already the warmer, less severe of the two, and the hood pushes it further that way. The result is about as approachable as a leather jacket gets, which is either exactly what you want from one or the reason to buy black instead.
The leather
Full-grain hide in a deep brown that goes almost black in the folds and lifts to a warmer tone across the shoulders and sleeves. Brass hardware rather than chrome, which suits the colour.
How it is cut
Room through the chest by design, with the rib gathering the hem. Most people take their usual size over a t-shirt and one up if a sweatshirt is going underneath. Check the chest wearing whatever you actually plan to have on under it.
What to wear it with
Black or indigo denim, a plain tee or sweatshirt, boots or trainers. Brown leather with a grey hood is a quiet combination, so you can put more colour underneath than you could with a black jacket.
Looking after it
Condition twice a year with a colourless product. Keep it out of long direct sun, which pulls the warmth out of a brown faster than it affects black. Hang with the hood flat down the back.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about brown hooded jackets
Does a hood suit brown leather as well as black?
Arguably better. Black leather carries an edge that a hood softens awkwardly for some people; brown has no edge to begin with, so the hood just makes it more casual rather than changing its character. If a hooded leather jacket has ever looked wrong to you in black, try it in brown.
Is a hooded jacket warmer than one with a collar?
Yes, and by more than you would expect — a surprising amount of heat escapes at the neck and the back of the head. Even worn down, a hood adds a double layer across the shoulders. Up, in cold wind, it is the difference between a jacket that copes and one that does not.
How do you stop a hood bunching when you sit in a car?
Pull it up over the headrest rather than letting it fold between your back and the seat. A hood crushed flat behind you for a long drive comes out creased and pushes the collar forward for the rest of the day. It sounds fussy; it is the single thing that keeps a hooded jacket looking right.
Should the drawcords be tied or left hanging?
Left hanging, evenly, for most people — tied cords on an adult jacket look fussy, and the knot sits against the chest. Use them properly when it is windy and the hood is up, which is the only time they do anything, then let them hang again.
Does brown leather hide marks better than black?
It hides dust and lint far better — black shows every speck on the shoulders. It hides scratches slightly worse, because a scuff on brown exposes lighter leather underneath while a scuff on black is less visible. On balance, brown is the lower-maintenance of the two day to day.
Can you wear a hooded leather jacket all year?
Three seasons comfortably. It is windproof enough for autumn and spring and warm enough for a mild winter over a sweatshirt. Summer is the limit — leather does not breathe, and a hood lying against your back on a warm day is noticeably uncomfortable.
