The centre partition does the real work
Without a divider, a laptop and a notebook slide against each other every time the bag swings, and the laptop ends up at the bottom under everything. The partition keeps the machine in its own section against the back panel, which is also the part of the bag that stays flattest against your body.

Is the laptop section padded?
It is lined and divided, which protects against scuffs and against other contents pressing into the screen. It is not a shock-absorbing sleeve. If you throw your bag down, use a padded sleeve inside it.
Can it be carried as a briefcase and over the shoulder?
Both. The twin handles are permanent; the shoulder strap clips on and comes off entirely when you do not want it.
Will it fit under an airline seat?
It is cut flat specifically for that, and a soft bag compresses where a hard case does not. Airline dimensions differ, so check your carrier before you fly rather than assuming.
Can I return it?
