Description
Two garments in one: a black leather jacket with zip chest and hand pockets, snap cuffs and antique brass hardware, and a separate hooded inner layer in soft black knit that zips in underneath it. Worn together the hood sits outside the leather collar; taken out, the jacket is a plain leather jacket with nothing to say it ever had a hood.
Why a zip-in hood is worth having
It is the only honest way to get both looks from one jacket. A hood stitched into the collar is permanent — removing it means rebuilding the neckline, and stitch holes in leather do not close. A zip-in layer takes thirty seconds to remove and lets the same jacket be casual on a Saturday and plain on a Tuesday.
The leather
Full-grain hide in a lightly distressed black, deeper in the panels and lifted along the seams and zip edges. The brass-toned zips are deliberately warm against it rather than bright chrome.
How it is cut
Close, hem at the belt. The inner layer takes up real space, so take a size up from your usual leather jacket if you intend to wear it in with a sweatshirt as well. The shoulder seam decides it either way.
What to wear it with
Hood in: jeans, a tee, trainers. Hood out: the jacket works over a shirt or a knit and goes considerably more places. That flexibility is the point of the design.
Looking after it
Condition the leather twice a year. The inner layer can be washed separately once it is unzipped, which is the practical advantage over a sewn-in hood that can only be spot-cleaned. Hang the shell on a wide hanger; store the inner layer flat.

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about zip-in hoods
How does a removable hood attach?
Here it is a whole inner layer rather than just a hood — a hooded bib with its own zip that runs inside the jacket’s front opening. That is more secure than a hood snapped to the collar alone, which tends to pull loose at the back of the neck, and it adds a layer of warmth at the chest as well.
Is a zip-in hood better than a sewn-in one?
More versatile, slightly less neat. A sewn-in hood lies flatter and has no second zip at the front; a zip-in gives you two different jackets and can be washed. If you want one jacket to cover more situations, zip-in wins.
Can you wash the hooded inner layer?
Once it is unzipped and separated from the leather, yes — follow its own care label. This is the main practical reason to prefer this construction: the part that touches your neck and collects hair product is the part you can actually clean.
Does the second zip make the front bulky?
A little, and it is honest to say so. With the inner layer in, there are two zips running down the front and the jacket sits slightly fuller at the chest than a plain one. Taken out, it is as flat as any other leather jacket.
What if you lose the inner layer?
The jacket still works completely on its own — that is the design. The zip inside the front opening is discreet enough that nobody reads it as a missing part. Keep the inner with the jacket on the same hanger and the question does not come up.
Which hood style suits a smarter look?
Neither, strictly — a hood is casual by nature. But a zip-in gets closer, because you can take it out and wear plain leather when that matters. A permanently hooded jacket is committed to being casual every time you put it on.
