Description

A caramel tan puffer cut in leather, quilted in narrow horizontal channels through the body and sleeves, with a stand collar and a straight centre zip. The finish is warm and slightly worn, lighter along the quilted ridges than in the seams.

The channels

Narrow rather than deep. Thin channels hold the fill evenly across the whole panel instead of letting it drift to the bottom, which is the usual failure in a cheap puffer after a winter. They also keep the jacket closer to the body — this is a warm jacket, not a bulky one.

The leather

Full-grain hide in a tan that varies right across each panel. Quilting makes that variation more visible than it would be on a flat jacket, because every channel catches light at a different angle. It is the most alive-looking finish of the puffers we make.

How it is cut

Room through the body for the insulation, hem at the belt, sleeves to the wrist. Take your usual size over a jumper. The quilted panels have no stretch, so sizing down to look sleeker does not work here.

What to wear it with

A check shirt, a flannel, a plain knit. Dark denim or cords. The tan is warm enough to carry a bit of pattern underneath, which a black puffer does not.

Looking after it

Condition lightly along the channels, not into the stitching. Dry at room temperature if it gets wet and never near a radiator. Hang it with room either side; crushed loft does not fully recover.

Shipping, duties and returns

Free worldwide shipping, 4–9 working days. Import duties are settled before dispatch where the carrier supports Delivered Duty Paid to the destination country; where it does not, duty is charged locally and we will tell you which applies before you order. Thirty days to return anything unworn with tags attached. Questions to info@cordwainleather.com or +34 614 79 27 86.

Size chart

Measure your chest around the fullest part with the tape level. Jacket chest is the finished garment measurement and runs larger than your body, because the jacket has to close over you. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Questions about leather puffers

Is a leather puffer heavier than a nylon one?

Yes, roughly twice the weight for the same warmth, because the shell is hide rather than fabric. What you get for the weight is a shell that does not tear on a branch, does not pick up a shine from a car seat, and lasts years longer. If light weight is the priority, buy nylon; if longevity is, buy this.

Why are leather puffers quilted in horizontal lines rather than squares?

Horizontal channels follow the way a body moves and keep the fill from sliding downward with gravity. Square box quilting holds fill more precisely but needs far more stitching, and every stitch line through leather is a permanent perforation — so on a hide shell, long horizontal channels are the sensible compromise.

What can you wear under a leather puffer?

A jumper, comfortably. The jacket is sized with that in mind. What does not work is a second padded layer — two insulated garments compress each other and you end up colder than with one good one and a wool knit.

What should you check about a puffer jacket’s zip?

That it runs the full length smoothly in both directions and sits flat without rippling the panel beside it. On an insulated jacket the zip carries more strain than on a plain one, because the padding pushes the two sides apart. A sticky or wavy zip on day one does not improve.

Is a leather puffer practical for everyday winter wear?

For dry cold, yes — it is warmer than a leather jacket, smarter than a technical puffer, and tough enough for daily use. For a wet climate it is the wrong choice: leather absorbs rain and an insulated jacket takes days to dry out properly.

How do you tell real insulation from a jacket that just looks puffy?

Squeeze a panel between finger and thumb. Real loft springs back; a jacket padded with thin foam or a stiff wadding stays compressed and feels dead. Then look at the channel width — narrow, regular channels mean the fill is being controlled, wide empty-looking ones usually mean there is not much of it.
